What is Light Amplification?

Sunlight can reflect and be magnified/ amplified off certain areas such as gel coat, stainless hardware/ surfaces, glass and other highly reflective zones to damage or “burn” the decking material.   Certain areas of a boat can have vertical planes or concave surfaces such as cockpit areas or other areas that have adjoining gel-coat or reflective hardware or glass that can reflect or “amplify” the sun’s light causing heat in excess of 175 degrees Fahrenheit.  Light Amplification can happen anywhere in your boat and is NOT covered by our warranty.

It is recommended to not store inflatable toys, floats or clear water bottles on the product while exposed to direct sunlight as this can also cause Light Amplification damage. Decking should be kept away from reflective surfaces or from under glass or other optically clear items. These objects can refract/reflect light, concentrating the sun’s light beams to a level which can be destructive to the decking.

Deck X Marine flooring is designed and engineered to be extremely durable in outdoor marine environments and is UV rated for temperatures up to 175 degrees F.  When not in use it is recommended that your boat be stored with a cover, garaged or kept under roof out of direct sunlight.  Keeping you bimini top up will also help keep temperatures at lower levels. The material will last longer and have reduced color fade if stored out of the elements.  Choosing a “lighter” color of decking will also help reduce the effects of the sun and lower surface temperatures.
